I've had a bit of free time on my hands, so I've taken the opportunity to learn a few things. I've been screwing around with VMWare, installing a few virtual machines under Linux. I created two different VM configs - one running Windows 2000 Professional, and the other running Solaris 8. I'm quite impressed with the speed the VMWare Virtualization engine can deliver.
I've also been playing with WINE, attempting to run some Windows applications straight under Linux. So far, I've succeeded in running a few applications, most notably, Total Annihilation. The game runs absolutely flawlessly under Linux/WINE. (Single player runs fantastic, though I'm sure there may be issues with multiplayer and networking, but I haven't tried that yet.)
In other news, I've been tinkering with a few behind-the-scenes components on Accipiter.org. I've mainly added some new features to make administration and maintenance tasks a lot easier, therefore making my life happier. The new features are written in Perl, of course. Since they're backend features, the public won't even get to see them.
Trust me, they exist. Nifty stuff, too.
