Accipiter.org's current header image has been up a little longer than usual. I haven't had a whole lot of time to come up with an idea for a new one, let alone create it. I might get to it this weekend. We'll see.
Interesting news on the home networking front. Since my employer specializes in wireless connectivity, it has captured my interest a bit. I did a little poking around on the various different kinds of wireless stuff out there, and learned how it all works. Once I had a good grasp of the technology, I got myself a nifty little 802.11b access point, and a wireless PCMCIA card. The access point itself doesn't have a brand name attached to it, however the card I got is the same one we use at work - the Enterasys RoamAbout. I got it on eBay for a pretty decent price.
So my network at home is now augmented with wireless. It's nice to be able to surf the web from bed. It also makes it easy for when friends come over with their computers, and want to hook into my network. I just hand them a wireless card, and send them on their way.
The wireless signals are directly hooked into my internal network, but this is going to change soon. The wireless network has the identification broadcast turned off, and is also encrypted with 64 bit WEP, but since WEP is a piece of shit, I need to rig up something a little more secure. (I really don't think it's a good idea to have people driving up to my building, and being able to map 192.168.0.0/16 from their car.) Therefore, I have a computer in my living room to which I have added a second network card. I'm going to move the access point off of my hub and hook it up to this card. Traffic will then pass through this card and authenticate to the main internal network.

Update: I got a little bored, so I made this. Yeah it came out good, but now I'm going to hell.
