Italy: Day 4
Sundays suck in Italy. Seriously, everything from busses to trains to restaurants to markets are all shut down and closed, and they don't reopen until Monday or in many cases Tuesday. I was stuck in the hotel pretty much all day today, although I did get out for a bit to catch some of a horse rase and grab a bite to eat.
That brings me to the food. With the exception of the not-so-great slice of pizza I had a few days ago, the food has been fantastic. Two nights ago I walked down the street to a small little restaurant, and it turned out to be incredible. My dinner that night consisted of an appetizer of mozzarella and prosciutto, followed by a main course of pennette alla sorrentina which is pretty much penne pasta with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil. It was awesome. I went back to the same place last night, and had caprese for my appetizer, and risotto for the main course.
Tonight, of course, I did not have a particularly good dinner because it is Sunday and, well, it's Sunday. In Italy. There is nothing open, nothing to do, and the entire day has been pretty much dead with the exception of catching the horse race this afternoon. Since my hotel is conveniently located adjacent to a horse track, this was a relatively easy thing to do. Luckily the track's restaurant was open, so I got to enjoy a late lunch with my new friends Peter and Angela - the nice English couple I met during my trip. Lunch was also very good, as we enjoyed mozzarella and prosciutto for our appetizer followed by a pasta dish of which I don't know the name, but it was spiral pasta in a cream sauce with parmesan and artichoke.
I have an early day tomorrow as my ride for my day trip to the coast arrives at 8am. I've set the alarm on my new phone for 6:30, which should give me enough time to get ready.

Update: Oh, and happy birthday to me.
