"419" Scam Thread

Introduction

So a 419 scam e-mail popped into one of my rarely used e-mail boxes one day, and I decided to have a little fun with it. Sometimes I reply to these messages while feigning interest, so that they may waste their time and resources on me. I figure if they're busy dealing with me, that might be one less person that would have been scammed by these lowlifes that I have saved from this headache.

The pseudonym I chose is that of "Flapjack Dandy", a completely random name I came up with for the first time I ever baited one of these scammers. Unfortunately, the first few times never got replies, but I got a reply on this one and continued use of the pseudonym.

The messages between Flapjack and "Michael Kalu" bounce back and forth pretty regularly until the so-called "bank" starts getting in the picture. Any weird typographical and/or grammatical errors appearing in the messages are verbatim from the originals.

Enjoy.

Subject: CAN YOU ACT AS THE NEXT OF KIN?

Hello Dear,

RE:URGENT ATTENTION PLEASE.

I am Mr.Micheal Kalu, I work with the Gulf Bank of Nigeria Plc Ikeja Branch as a staff.we had a customer, a foreigner (Turkish) resident in Nigeria he was a contractor of one of the government parastatals. He has in his account in my branch the sum of $ 34.8 million (thirty-four million eight hundred thousand USD) unfortunately, the man died two years ago until today non of his next of kin has come forward to claim the money. Having noticed this, I in collaboration with two other staffs, we have covered up this account all this while.

Now we want you being a foreigner to be fronted as one of his next of kin,and write an application to the Gulf Bank asking them to transfer this $ 34.8 million dollars to your bank account as the next of kin to the late customer. (Engr.Gucan Guniz)We will use our position to get all internal documentations to back up the claim, the whole procedures will last only (21) banking working days to get the fund retrieved successfully without trace even in the future.

All the relevant documents shall be forwarded to you upon your indication to assist me in this project Please, if you will sincerely assist us in this transaction, kindly include your private telephone and fax numbers for easy communication. I will prefer to have a heart to heart discussion with you on phone on the following issues.

1. Mode and modalities for a successful retrieval of funds and banking for subsequent investment.

2. How you will obtain relevant legal documents for claims as the rightful beneficiary of the funds.

3. What amount of money will I give to you as compensation for your honest assistance?

This business is hundred percent (100%) risk free and a big mega fortune.

I await your urgent response.
Thanks and God bless.

Micheal,

This sounds like an interesting and exciting opportunity! I can't wait to get intimate with you about the first step to beginning such this transaction. My bank account has money in it, and I could definitely use a little more. I just have questions my new friend that I would like to ask, and I am hoping beautifully you can answer them.

Waffles.

You say you received my contact on privacy search. I am a reliable and trusted person, though I'm wondering where you may received my e-mail address? It's not a problem since you give easily this great opportunity, I'm just curiosity. I'm sorry the loss of your customer with such a great fortune in Gulf Bank. Was he happy? Did he enjoy pool boys?

A trip to Nigeria sounds as fun, and I get big money in addition! Great! I reading over your original message and it sounds like a reasonable offer. Thor strikes lightning through his urethra, I will be GLAD to assist, save fluids! Very happy. I will assume to meet you in Nigeria to do transaction, yes? I hope to be of help. I'm help.

I decide not to get a lawyer, because he will ask for percentages of money to give. I can keep all the money for myself, since it sounds to do easy! Don't you agree?

Gulf Bank account might be an option, but how hard would it be to just deposit the money in my existing account? Makes it easy for me, in keeping money with money. Soonest to getting the transaction started. I would like a boat! I think I can buy a boat with money. How much money do I get? And what supply to give you? I end my message pledging as much the sincerity and honesty you have given me.

Happy day! Hoping to hear the reply.

Dear Flapjack Dandy

Thanks for your mail, I appreciate first your resolve to work with me towards realizing this project. please be informed that with the strategies i have put in place this project must work however, I crave your understanding of its sensitivity and keep this project strictly confidential to yourself alone until this funds hits your nominated bank account.

However, based on my believe and responsibility to humanity in consideration to my status as a knight in my church i would want to further intimate you that what motivated my interest into contacting you and facilitating the process of transferring this funds out from our bank and outside this country is because of victimizing policy of this bank in relation to government regulatory body, if after three years this fund is not claimed the bank will absorb the fund and declare it unclaimed and dividend to the bank. They will share it with government of Nigeria in 60:40 ration. This particular idealogy motivated my desire and action to look for a reliable partner who will feature himself as the next of kin to the deceased to claim this fund for our mutual benefit.

However, with consideration to constraints, you know that i am not a business man and i do not have any already contact to execute this project, it was a problem for me looking for a reliable partner for over six month, i have had this problem looking for how to secure a reliable partner, in fact my contact with you was an act of God. i contacted you based on mutual understanding, that trust and confidence is reciprocal, as i am proposing this deal to you with all sense of sincerity, confidence, trust and responsibility that in reciprocation you also will extend such trust, confidence, sincerity and responsibility towards me.

However, it is very important you secure the services of a lawyer to work on your behalf if you can't come to Nigeria to handle the processes by your self,Because i as a staff of the GULF BANK will not work on your behalf to avoid any problem,Please note that the lawyer who you will contact to work on your behalf must not know that this business is a deal, you will tell him that you are the original next of kin to the late GUNIZ.I repeat he must not know that this business is a deal please.More so,the best way this money can be transfered over to you is only when you open a new bank account with the GULF BANK,then as soon as the $34.8 MUSD hits your new account in the GULF BANK you will immediately instruct the Authorities of GULF BANK to transfer the funds to your nominated bank account in your country. AS soon as you have the funds in your custody I will immediately request for a leave so that I can be able to come and meet with you to collect our own share.

As soon as you indicate your interest to contact a lawyer I will send to you the text of formal application for release of this fund which you will send directly to the bank for processing of the transfer and you will immediately back it up with your lawyer, because a lawyer must have to obtain an AFFIDAVIT and other relevant documents from the high court here to back up your claim as the proxy beneficiary of the funds, but the lawyer must I repeat He must not know that this business is a deal.

Please include your private telephone and fax numbers in your reply to this mail.

Thanks as i await your urgent response.

Best regards,
Mr.Micheal Kalu

Michael,

You're welcome the mail. Resolve is a good and I work the realization of project at the hand, and I set to have the biggest confidential of being the transaction. When the money I get however I want to buy a boat. A schooner. It's a sailboat. Magic the eye! I plan to inform of the strategies you placed, and will stick to them as a glue.

How is the responsibility to the humanity as the knight? I think it is the cool I talk to a knight of a church! Does the church is having a round table? That might be appropriate if. What church does you belong?

I have to be apologize for somewhat bad English. Friends told me before that the English speaking of me isn't good after a nailgun had the fired nail into my ear. This was happened in 2001, but I am still the living. Not zombie! If I were the zombie after the nailgun I might could have eaten the brain that was the leaked out. haha! :)

Anyway, if on to business! I smell the recommendation of the lawyer and think it would be if good idea perhaps, but I am worried still about a big payment the lawyer might for ask. Maybe if you could be the providing me with lawyer service I could be better at ease. Hydrogen peroxide.

The bank is the not honorable, like me. Government shouldn't get a the benefits of a dead customer Gulf Bank. I think unfair, that would be. Yes? Of course. That is the why I want help to give you in this transaction, for all of us to enjoy the wealth of the good and the gold. I want to be the help for you, my new friend. You have been over the search for six month of the year, but you have gained your search. I am help.

I called the mine friend and she gave me the lawyer suggestion, but I didn't give her a formation of what you and me to do. I said the money, and didn't give her the tell. She does not know in our talk. If you are the insist that I use lawyer for the money, I will call and make sure they are NOT the know that this is a deal, like you told. Is this the good? I think it to be.

I do not have fax machines but my the telephone number is 7. Remember dial the 1 first.

I hope we have the transaction money as the soon possible! Hot water and Vicks, to the serpents. God the speed. Thank you.

Dear Flapjack Dandy,

Thanks for your question, you must claim that you are a brother to late guniz to enable you have this funds into your bank account,is only I and you that knows that you are not a real brother to late Guniz but in order to act as his next of kin you must have to claim as his brother.Note that I would not do this business for the first place or invite you into it if I know that it will affect you or me in any way.

Once again I want you to know that by our banking rules, any deposit that had not been claimed after four years must be returned to federal treasury, and since the man that had this deposit died by plane crash, it is over two years now and if we cannot provide some body to come out as the next of kin to collect this funds, we must return it to the treasury, and all the big people in the bank will just take the money and share within them selves that is way we want to front you as the next of kin.I work in the Bank in finance sector and I can advice best how we can handle this so you can count on me for that and do what ask you to do please. This business is hundred percent (100%) risk free and a big mega fortune. Please go ahead and fill the paper and fax it to the gulf bank via their fax number which i have already forwarded to you.

I await your urgent response.

What question have you ask me before that i have not answered? for your information i am a staff of the gulf bank as i have already to you earlier than now,I have also send to you a copy of my passport photo via attachment in my second or third email to you. However i have attached again my passport photo so click on the attachment to view it.what else do you want from me.

Note that you are not to ask of my information i am to have your information because i am the person sending this money to you,so i am to be afraid of you and not you to be afraid of me OK. bear this in mind that you have to go on my instruction so that we will not make a mistake OK.Please i want you to assure me that you will not sit on this money when it comes into your account.

Let me know as soon as you hear from the bank.

Best regards,
Mr.Micheal Kalu

Note from Flapjack: He claims he sent me a copy of his passport photo in one of the early e-mails, but I never received any such photo. He did, however, make good to send me a photograph in the next message. Whether it's actually him or not, who knows. I also find it highly amusing that he has the gall to start getting nasty with me in this message, as evidenced by "you are not to ask of my information i am to have your information because i am the person sending this money to you." Best regards indeed. What better way to instill confidence than to get uppity with the person you're trying to scam. Amateur.

A quick Google search of that IP address returns lots of guestbook results (common e-mail address trolling grounds for these types of scammers) and statistical pages, along with someone else's account of a similar e-mail scam originating from the same IP address.

I acknowledge the receipt of your email and the content well understood. I wish to state our legal charges for holding brief for in this matter was not abruptly given as every laid down procedure were put into consideration. However, to show our good faith, we have accepted to reduce our Legal / Professional charges to US$15,000.00. We do hope that you will appreciate this gesture in good faith.

We however would not accept a condition where our Legal charges and Consultation fee would be placed subject to deductions from your late brother_s estate.

We would however, expect that our Legal charges and Consultation fee is paid within four (4) working days of receiving your late brother_s estate from the Gulf Bank.

However, the required Affidavit fee of US$150.00 and Stamp Duty fee of US$50.00 must be paid upfront, directly to either the Registrar of the Court or to the Accounts Section of the Court and receipt of such payment issued by the Accounts Section of the Court prior to the approval and signing of the Sworn Affidavit. Thus, you do not expect us to raise these respective sums for you.

If you therefore cannot send immediately the required Affidavit fee and Stamp Duty fee, both totally US$450.00 to enable us obtain the Sworn Affidavit in your favor, I am very sorry to inform you that we can no longer hold brief for you in this case, as it is not our responsibility to pay such fees for clients.

Do the send statement. I have done the dismissed lawyer from our business. Egypt shall SHINE with the butter!

1. It of can, yes.
2. The lawyer is of a STUPID MORON and he is DUMB AND STUPID AND CANNOT ADD. He is what told me:

"However, the required Affidavit fee of US$150.00 and Stamp Duty fee of US$50.00 must be paid upfront"
AND
"If you therefore cannot send immediately the required Affidavit fee and Stamp Duty fee, both totally US$450.00"

I am not going to do the business with a lawyer who CANNOT EVEN MATH PROPERLY BECAUSE HE IS A STUPID IDIOT WHO CANNOT ADD. He is the wanting the money up front, too. I guess can see why, because he is DUMB. You can of tell that fucking moron to PISS THE OFF as he is a dumbass.

3. My ear yes can be treated, of however I cannot the afford it. I will can afford it after I get this money though! (If are you of willing to lend me of money to get the treatment, I would be the VERY GRATEFUL and can of pay you back WITH THE INTEREST when I am the get money from Guniz account. Yes.)

4. Estimates of proper ear of treatment for me is the cost of $3940 over the three specialist visits.
5. I told of you I did contact the lawyer. Over and of over.

Peace be the frogs.

Flapjack

Note from Flapjack: His questions about my ear (3 and 4) caught my attention and gave me the idea to try and scam HIM. I know I'm not going to get the money, but for the sheer delight of scamming the scammer, I had to try. I also made it a point to insult the "lawyer" as much as possible.

Dear Flapjack,

Thanks for your email,If really you have dismissed the lawyer not to work for you that means you have to go back to him and beg him again to start working on you behalf or you can send your lawyer from your country to come over and secure those documents from the court because that is the only thing that is delaying this money to come over to your bank account ,I was the person that contacted you for this deal so I am to tell you what to do to enable us get this money without any hitch. Please in a condition like this you have to seek for my advise.

What is US$450.00 to be compared to your percentage in this deal?

However,i want you to immediately write the lawyer and confirm how much exactly is the money he needed to secure those documents, if the problem is US$450.00 then i advise you to big the lawyer with the amount you have at hand and promise him that you will pay him the balance after securing the documents.

Hold me responsible if anything happened to any money you pay the lawyer as i have told you before that i know the lawyer very well so he can not even try to do any nonsense i assure you that brother.I promise to take care of your treatment from my own share of money as soon as you have this money in your custody,Please be res assured that this transaction is 100%risk free so you have noting to fear or worry about.

Your conditions will change in a short time by the grace of almighty God.Please do not let the lawyer to know that this transaction is a deal please.

I am waiting for your positive response.

Kindly send me an email informing me if you are still interested in the business or not. I have explained to you in my earlier emails that because I work in the Gulf Bank, it would be impossible for me to handle this deal, because the authorities of the bank would start asking questions as to what is my interest in the whole matter, since I am not related to the owner of the money. I cannot get involved in this business openly, because I work in the Gulf Bank. Do you not understand? We therefore need the lawyer to handle this matter for us. Even the lawyer would not know that I am involved in this deal. I am waiting for your urgent response otherwize i look for another person .
