I got myself a spare GPS recently, and I have in my head an idea for a utility similar to the mp3 computer I had in my old car. I'm going to see about picking up a fanless VIA motherboard, a chunky compact flash card (512MB) and an old cellphone. What I have in mind is to build the motherboard into the car with a tiny installation of Linux, have it boot off the CF card, and keep track of the car's current location with the GPS. If my car ever gets stolen, it'd be a simple matter of dialing into the computer via the cellphone, downloading the car's current coordinates, then plotting it on a map. It'll be a fun project, and a useful end result. When I start on it, I'll definitely be documenting the progress on the site.
In other news, I'm considering getting myself a storage unit sometime soon since I really hate having so much stuff cluttering my house. I'm not planning on moving for a while, but when I do, having lots of unused crap in storage will most definitely ease the process. Last time I moved, I found that the bulk of the stuff I was hauling from A to B was stuff I never really used.
On a tangent, Minute Maid cherry soda is prime. My local Subway actually carries it in their fountain, which rocks hard. It takes forever to fill up a cup though, since it gets very foamy very fast.
Okay, I want everybody to clear the area
right now.
