The weather up here was crazy on Thursday. I was still at work at around 6 in the evening when Lucy mentioned that I should check out what was going on outside the side door to the office. I ran over and opened the door to find that Executive Park Drive, the main road that runs through our office complex, was underwater. I don't mean that water was just skimming the surface, either; there was about two feet of rushing, muddy water covering the road. I had to see it up close, so I ran out to take a look. Of all times to be without my camera, this was one of the worst.
While I was outside getting soaked, inspecting the phenomenon, I noticed about 50 feet up the road that there was a car, driver door ajar and hazard lights flashing, just sitting in the water. Nevermind the fact that the road looked like the Mississippi river, some brave (read: stupid) soul decided that their Hyundai could make it. It didn't.
Predictably, traffic was downright awful in the area that evening. I made it home safely though, and the rain was nice to listen to while going to sleep. Being awakened by branches flying into my window a few hours later, however, was not.
In other news, it looks like I'm going to be going back to Checkpoint training real soon. I'm already a CCSA, but I got it about three years ago and I haven't touched a Checkpoint box since. So my employer has been kind enough to schedule me for a refresher course.
