I got back late last night from a trip to Nashville, and this morning I'm tired. I am convinced that my brain understands certain things... namely, the fact that if I do not wake up when I expect to wake up, I will wake up to find out why I didn't wake up. This is convenient since I have a failsafe in case the things that are supposed to wake me up do not. I am also convinced that I need a new alarm clock.
I should probably mention that the mere act of planning a trip to Nashville makes things go wrong with my car. Just before my last trip to Nashville, my car's air conditioning died. I had to rush to get it repaired since there was no way in hell I was driving 4 hours in the summer with no AC. $900 later, I had a new compressor. This time, not a day had passed since securing my days off from work to take the trip before my car started making thumping noises. I investigated and found a ridiculously large nail or screw had punctured the tire. My left headlight also stopped working halfway through my trip.
I left work at around noon on Thursday and drove straight to Nashville. After making a quick stop at the Autozone down the block from their house, I arrived at Scott and Julia's at around 3:30 central time and found they were not at home. I wrote mention that I was in the area on a Wendy's napkin, shoved it in their door, and went to White Castle to enjoy a couple of their glorious burgers while waiting for Scott and Julia to return. They got back just as I was pulling out of the parking lot of White Castle (which made for excellent timing) so I drove back over. I played a bit of Katamari Damacy (a frightening yet addictive game introduced to me by Scott and Julia) before we headed to Greer Stadium to watch a baseball game.
I met several of Julia's co-workers/friends, saw and hung out with Kurt and Ches, watched a baseball game which was the cause of Scott getting hit in the face with a foul ball, obtained free bread care of the stadium and Sara Lee (what?), experienced pure evil in the form of a spectacularly bad 80s cover band during a post-game attempt at entertainment, and capped the evening sitting on a campus enjoying beverages and the company of my good friends. It was an excellent happy fun time.
There is some pending upheaval over on their side of the world. Scott goes to DC next week to start working with these guys, and Kurt is being deployed to god knows where to go work with these guys.
