On an invite from my friend Krystal, I went to what's known as the "Bitter Ball" last night. It's a big anti-Valentine's day celebration they hold every year at a local nightclub, with the idea that a bunch of single people gathered in one place makes for a good time.

That'd have probably been the case if I had been someone else instead of, you know, me. Krystal had a good time of course (she could have a good time at an insurance seminar), but I found ways to kill my own mood since I'm just not compatible with environments like this.

Outside of walking from room to room or getting some water, I can't bring myself to move. It's a singles party which consequently means I can't bring myself to talk to anyone. I can't help but notice the looks of disdain I get, enough for Krystal to play it off as them "checking me out." And to top off the evening, an attractive girl tells me my hat is awesome (my favorite hat, a black fedora), and asks if she could wear it for a minute saying "I'll bring it right back, I promise!" I (being as pathetic as I am) say yes, and she promptly takes it and is never seen again.

So contrary to claims, I'm not that great a person. Certainly not fun, and Krystal won't make that mistake again since I did a pretty good job of dragging her down too.

Happy Valentine's day indeed.

You are insane.
But I am not going to go into the reasons why.

I had a good time. In general I am able to prevent other's moods from affecting my own. You are probably right in that I can have fun just about anywhere with anyone.

As for you, you have some areas to work on. The self-loathing is not your strong point. See, other people don't have to tear you down when you do it to yourself. And it is funny how much more believable it is when we hear ourselves say it.

You automatically assume that people are thinking or feeling a certain way, and you do not ask them if it is true. If you do not check it out with them, how do you know it is true? You can say they were looks of disdain if you want, but I clearly saw two girls watch you walk by, and they were smiling, not frowing, pointing or laughing at you.

Just some initial thoughts.

And I will continue to invite you out. So there. :P

Aiee! I'm sorry you lost your favorite hat. But what Krystal says is very true. You can't read other people's minds; you don't know what they are thinking.

Yah, if you could read minds, you'd look like the giant cranium dudes from This Island Earth.
