It's been a little over four months since I went to Japan, and I've decided that I'm going to take my yearly vacation in April. This makes for excellent timing since it coincides with both my birthday and my annual bonus. Additionally, April is a particularly mild month weather-wise all over the northern hemisphere.

That means I'll be taking a trip in April, and it looks like I'll be headed to Italy for my standard 10 day vacation. My dad's family comes from Campania and Calabria which is in southern Italy, so that's probably where I'll be spending the most of my time. I would like to visit Rome while I'm there as well, which is about a 3 hour trip. Not short, but not prohibitively long either.

And while it'd also be nice to see Venice and Milan, they're way up on the northern side of the country and unfortunately not a realistic option for this trip.

Europe can still be pretty nippy in April, but Southern Italy should be rather nice and spring blossomy. I've spent Easter in Paris wrapped up in a jersey and coat and I've seen snow in London in May. I know you like it cool though, so you should be fine and have a marvellous time.

Check out EasyJet, RyanAir, etc. and see if you can get an internal flight up to Venice. Probably not though, they're more international airlines. You might get to ride high speed rail and overnight on a train if you really want to squeeze in Venice and Milan, though.
