November 1, 2006

The house thing is moving along rather swiftly. I've managed to get somewhere between 40 and 45 percent of my crap moved from the apartment to the house, which is cool considering I still have the entire month of November to hold on to my apartment.

Yesterday was actually an interesting day at the house, as I got to watch my kitchen get ripped out and rebuilt. General Electric came by on Monday to deliver and install my new refrigerator, and after they rolled it into the kitchen they discovered that the hole for the fridge was too narrow to hold it. I got the builder rep to come out and have a look, and he took some measurements and found that my pantry was framed incorrectly. It turns out that the pantry was framed four inches too wide, and as a result, one entire wall of my kitchen was shifted four inches to the left causing the gap for the fridge to shrink as a result.

That caused yesterday to be a fairly educational day, in that I got to see an entire wall of the kitchen ripped out and rebuilt. The appliances were removed, cabinets were taken down, the pantry wall was torn down and the frame removed, a new frame was installed and secured, the walls around the frame were attached and secured, the seams and corners were smoothed, cabinets were replaced, and appliances were reinstalled. After one day of work, the only things that need to be finished are the vinyl floor, the shelves in the pantry, and the paint. I have pictures of the process that I took with my cellphone, and I'll put those up shortly.

In other news, my buddy Jim Hodgson is trying to score a music gig on a big boat alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd. I would certainly like to see him go on this big boat and play his music, so you should go and vote for him because he deserves it. At the very least you should also check out his music, and if you like it you should buy his album.
