I watched Poltergeist this evening. I haven't watched it in years, and I had pretty much forgotten it entirely. As I was watching it, however, different things came back to me. The tree's silhouette, for example, as well as the clown in the chair, and other little things. I was glad to see that I'd forgotten the majority of it, so that I could enjoy it again.
I have a few problems with things here and there, however. Now, I can see why this was necessary from a plot point of view, but seriously. I think the point at which the tree busts into the room and tries to eat my son would be the turning point that determines my future residency in that house. Sure, the little girl got trapped in the TV ("You know, our daughter Carol-Anne is in the television set..."), but still. Damn that. I'd stop by the house and flip the channels around during the day, but come nighttime, my ass would be tucked away in a cozy hotel somewhere else.
As if that isn't enough, the day after they rescue Carol-Anne from the TV/closet/afterlife demons or whatever, what do they do? They stay another night, and tuck the kids away in the same room where all the shit went down in the first place. Sorry. NO. It seems to me the smartest member of that family was the oldest daughter. She pretty much said "screw this" from the get-go, and took up residence at friends' houses while Carol-Anne was playing in the static. Clever girl.
Oh, and the movie had an appearence by the Pathmark guy! I forgot all about that dude ever since I left New York. He rules! Way to go, Pathmark guy!
